Legal Requirements for First Aid Training in the Workplace

Employers have a legal obligation to ensure that first aid provisions are in place for their employees in the event of illness or injury at work.

The following regulations are derived from The Safety, Health and Workplace Act (Act II 2011) and The Labour Protection Act (B.E. 2541, 1998).

Work Safety Officer Requirements

Employers must designate a work safety officer or a designated team responsible for workplace safety in compliance with ministerial regulations. These officers and personnel are required to register with the Labour Welfare and Protection Department.

The training curriculum for safety officers includes a 3-hour first aid training session followed by 3 hours of practical demonstration and training on first aid, as stipulated by the Rule of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare on the Training Curriculum for Safety Officers (B.E. 2549, 2006).

Duty to Arrange Training

Employers are required to organise training and workshops to ensure employees can perform their tasks safely and correctly. According to the Ministerial Regulation on the Prescribing of Standards for Administration and Management of Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (B.E. 2546, 2009), employers must ensure that all executives, supervisors, and employees undergo training related to safety, occupational health, and workplace environment to properly manage and engage in safety activities.
